1. Movie: “You’ve Got Mail”
The quaintest romantic comedy you can find. The movie starts in fall and includes Christmas scenes before showing blooming spring scenes. The fashion is cozy; the sets are homey. Even the movie quotes are endearing. For example, “Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?” As for the characters, the relationship between Kathleen and Joe develops sweetly. They start out as staunch enemies and end up to be best friends who fell in love. What more could you ask for?
2. TV Show: Gilmore Girls
A show full of witty quotes and quirky characters set in a darling small town. It’s almost perpetually set in fall, with some magical winter scenes thrown in. There’s always a festival going on and a romance developing. There are town meetings in a barn and twinkle lights on every tree. The music is full of tranquil “la la la’s”. The relationship between Rory and Lorelei is as charming as the setting because of their friendly banter. It’s a must watch.
3. Book Collection: any book by Sarah Addison Allen
Sarah Addison Allen is the master of whimsical literature. Her books are full of little enchantments. Her characters have fascinating gifts, like giving someone just the right thing soon before they need it. A couple of the books include an apple tree that is as much of a character as any of the people. The tree will throw apples at people it doesn’t like, or show the eater of its apple a big event that will happen in their future. The books are usually set in a small town. They include winsome characters with lessons to learn and gifts to share. You’ll get lost in the worlds created in these books.
